The new DVD formats -- DVD-V and DVD-ROM, amongothers -- with their use of MPEG video and Dolby Digital audio (AC-3) offernew challenges to engineers, producers, compressionists, multi-media publishers, disc replicators, and almost everyone else in the video "food chain".Successful digital video publishing depends on understanding DVD toolsand parameters, including:

  • Standards: MPEG-2 (ISO/IEC 13818-2), MPEG-1 (ISO/IEC11172-2), Dolby Digital 5.1 (AC-3)
  • DVD-Video 1.0 specification ¥ Multiplexing ofaudio, video, and sub-picture files into DVD formats

  • DVD-Video and ISO/UDF Bridge
  • DVD navigation tools
  • DVD quality assurance
  • Paul Collins offers a unique perspective on DVD.He's witnessed the format from its inception through its growth pains andinto maturing applications.
