    Program:

Breaking into the technical side of television can be tough, since thereare few places in the country where today's novices can learn to becometomorrow's professionals. The Bay Area is lucky to have a relatively largetalent pool, in part because of the unusually great concentration of localtraining opportunities.

If you want to get into audio-video engineering, know someone who does,or need to employ newly minted engineers, don't miss this meeting, a greatchance to hear from four outstanding local A/V technical schools. Whatyou learn may be important either for your career or for selecting yourfuture "hires".

Can new graduates meet the increasingly high demands of production,cable- and broadcasting, and the nascent field of "netcasting"? Our host,GaryPlatt, the president of the Ex'pression School for New Media, willstart the program with an overview of opportunities and what his schooloffers. In addition to teaching, Gary is a nationally known audio mixingengineer.

Gary will be followed by Gary Vann, Television Instructor/Coordinatorof Napa Valley College and well known to SMPTE-SF audiences. Phil Kipper, who is the Department Chair of San Francisco State University's Broadcastand Electronic Communications Arts Program, and Charles Hintz, an instructorat Cal State Hayward's Communications Program, will wrap up the evening.

Ex'pression students before and after the program will lead tours oftheir outstanding audio and video facilities. Much of the school's gearis state of the art.
