    Program

The earliest practical television displays were CRTs. TV projection was first done using bright CRTs and lenses, followed by arc lamps and oil film, then LCDs, both transmissive and reflective were perfected. TI introduced a reflective mirror chip known as DLP™. Recently, we have see the proliferation of panel displays using both LCD and plasma technology. Lasers have been used for light shows, but were large, cumbersome and expensive as video light engines. With the advent of bright blue LEDs we have the spectrum to product a LED display, but that doesn't seem an ideal solution.

Now, Novalux has invented a tuned, solid state laser engine with amazingly small size, and high efficiency suitable for consumer and profession display devices with the chance to move projection right into PDAs and cell phones as never before.

Novalux is the sole inventor and developer of the NECSEL technology and a pioneer in solid-state RGB laser light sources for projection display and other lighting applications. In addition to their extensive IP portfolio, they boast a state-of-the-art semiconductor fab in the heart of Silicon Valley, California.

With all the excitement these days about laser light sources for display, Novalux would like to have the local San Francisco SMPTE chapter come by our facility for a brief overview on our view of how lasers will begin to roll out across various product lines. Attendees will also be able to see our various demos, including laser TVs, pocket projectors, and front projectors.

Gregory T. (Greg) Niven is Executive Vice President of Marketing at Novalux, Inc. He has spent the last 13 years involved with laser technology for the graphic arts and display markets, including focussing the last five on the consumer electronics marketplace. Before joining Novalux at the start of 2005, he spent six years at Coherent, Inc., where he directed their business development efforts in laser display. His prior five years were at Creo, Inc., where he specialized in high-power lasers and optical imaging systems. Greg is a strong strategist who works effectively with customers to help with Novalux's focus on being the first corporation to successfully leverage the strengths of lasers into the mass production TV market. Greg received his B.S. degree in Engineering Physics from the University of Alberta and still manages to play ice hockey like all true Canadians!
