The evolution of electronic cinema is spreading this change into the art of filmmaking, where the economies of schedule, production, and distribution become important factors in remaining competitive. Can electronic imaging stand up to the artistic requirements of filmmakers?
Our speaker this month brings us a status report on the changing state of the art of electronic cinema. Jeff Cree of Sony helps studios and production houses learn how best to use electronic imaging technology as a valuable tool, alongside film. Jeff knows the practical realities of this new gear. He's worked "in the trenches" as a production and broadcast engineer and in real-world film and video field production, including a high-definition shoot for a documentary on the Titanic. Jeff is a certified deep-water diver.
Since his Sony colleague, Larry Thorpe, last talked to us two years ago, the then-new 24-frame progressive HDTV equipment has been delivered and put into service by many Hollywood filmmakers. Using examples of recently shot footage, Jeff will bring us up to date on both the current state of the technology and how the equipment is being received and used by a wide variety of filmmakers.
Mark your calendar to join us on Thursday, November 15th, at Sony's Western Headquarters at 3300 Zanker Road in San Jose for an up-to-the-minute look at the latest in electronic cinema, coming to a theater—and a TV screen— near you.
