    November 2009 MEETING

    REVISED TOPIC, SAME TIME AND PLACE:

    Charles Hintz's presentation scheduled for Tuesday evening, “Consumer-Grade Video for Red Light Enforcement: Spoliation of Evidence?", has been REPLACED due to a family emergency. He'll record his talk later without an audience and we'll post it on blip.tv in December. At that time, we'll send an email blast alerting you to take a look at this fascinating topic that affects more than just the world of video engineering. This may be a case of video engineers helping maintain the quality of evidence in American jurisprudence.

    For our live audience on Tuesday evening, 24 November, we offer an equally interesting and important presentation by Belden's Steve Lampen:

    10 Gigabit Cable for Audio and Video Applications

  • Speaker:
    • Steve Lampen, Belden
  • Date & time: TUESDAY, 24 November 2009;
    • 7:00 PM Social time/refreshments in “Green Room”, KMVT-15, Mountain View
    • 8:00 PM studio set-up/camera blocking
    • 8:30 PM Program Recording in Main Studio

    Program:

    The hottest new thing in data – 10GbaseT, a new version of Ethernet with a nominal data rate of 10 Gbits per second, ten times faster than Gigabit Ethernet – will soon sweep into audio, video and broadcast applications, affecting everyone. Steve Lampen of Belden will show us what 10GbE is, how it works, and why previous cable and connector designs don't work. Steve will start his presentation with a history of Ethernet® and twisted pairs for data and take us on a ride into the near future.

    This one-hour video recording session will be divided into 10-minute "pods", to be published on http://blip.tv/search?q=SMPTESF , with links from www.SMPTEsf.org and www.smpte.org .
