    Program

Recent, major improvements in digital high-definition video imaging --optics, CCD imagers, DSP video signal processing, and digital recording-- point to the nascent trend toward HD video in feature production andin distribution.

HD products presently available and in development are a far cry fromthose of only five years ago. Sony’s Larry Thorpe, well known to SMPTEaudiences, will review these HD developments and show us their role inDTV broadcasting, movie-making, and digital cinema.

The ever-improving resolution of film continues to set the pace fordigital imaging and HD development. Larry will show us how 24-frame progressiveHDTV now making its debut may be the next logical step in digital video'spursuit of film. Using ILM clips, he will demonstrate and compare somerecent footage shot on both 35mm motion picture film and on digital HD.

The turn of the century heralds the arrival of HDTV in all areas offilm production and distribution. Mark your calendar for Thursday, November11th, at Sony’s Western Headquarters to witness evidence of this historictrend.
