There's no such thing as a "perfect display device". CRTs tilt, bloom, are relatively unstable, fussy to set-up, and are heavy. LCDs smear. Plasmaand DLP have variety of motion artifacts. And so on.
Speakers at our meeting hosted by HT Electronics will discuss and showcasea variety of technologies for large screen displays, including LCD, CRT,DLP/DMD, D-ILA projectors, and flat-screen plasma panels. We hope to haveworking demos of each of these display methods.
With so many competitors to the cathode-ray tube, many are saying thisalmost century-old technology is dead or dying. But is it? Some consumertests show people prefer the look and performance of glowing phosphor elementsto liquid crystals (LCD), micromirrors (DLP), or plasma discharges.
To get the most out of the HDTV image, you really should have a largemonitor measuring at least 50 to 60 inches, diagnonally. What would a 60-inchdirect-view CRT home monitor weigh? Do you have four very strong friendsto help carry it home? Would your floor even support it?
HT Electronics will provide a buffet-style light dinner and snacks startingat 6:00 pm, during which you can also demo various display systems. Formalpresentations will start at 7:30, followed by a Q&A session.
